Explosive Devices Found In Woodstock Apartment

The devices were not live, and the Cherokee Sheriff's Office has not filed any charges at this time.

WOODSTOCK, GA -- No charges have been filed at this time following the discovery of explosive devices in a residential unit earlier this week at a Woodstock apartment complex.

Deputies with the Cherokee Sheriff's Office were dispatched around 7:46 p.m. June 13 to the Terraces at Towne Lake to follow up on an anonymous report of suspicious materials inside one of the units.

Deputies made contact with the tenant of the apartment and "found many items that appeared to be explosive devices," sheriff's office spokesperson Sgt. Marianne Kelley said.

"The items were not illegal to have as they were inactive or not live, but that was not known at the time and couldn’t be verified," Sgt. Kelley told Patch.

To get a better understanding of what it was dealing with, the sheriff's office requested the help of the Cobb County Police Department's Explosive Ordnance Disposal Unit.

"The residents and surrounding apartments were asked to evacuate the apartments while the determination of safety was made," Sgt. Kelley added.

The residents were allowed to return to their apartments, and Cobb's EOD removed the items for destruction at a separate location.
