Jeremy Simpson, 22, is charged with three counts of aggravated assault on a police officer, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation said in its press release.

Officers with Woodstock police responded to a shots fired call around 11:20 p.m. Nov. 11 at a home in the 1300 block of Yorkshire Lane, which sits off Londonderry Drive south of Highway 92.

Officers arrived on the scene, located and made contact “with a subject with a gun” at the home, the state agency added.

“Verbal commands to drop the weapon were given by officers,” the GBI added. “The subject did not comply, resulting in the shooting incident.”

Simpson was transported to WellStar Kennestone Hospital for treatment and was subsequently released.

He’s currently being held with an $83,000 bond at the Cherokee County Adult Detention Center, Cherokee Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Lt. Jay Baker said.

The officers involved in the incident were not injured, and have been placed on administrative leave.

It’s the second officer-involved shooting to occur in Cherokee County in as many weeks. Resident William Candler was shot Oct. 28 by a Woodstock officer after he allegedly pointed a rifle from the porch of his home.

Officers issued verbal commands for Candler to drop the firearm, but he allegedly “raised the rifle at the officers, at which time the officers fired at Candler resulting in the shooting incident,” the GBI, which is investigating that incident, previously said.

Once the GBI completes its investigation, the results will be turned over to the Blue Ridge Judicial Circuit for review.
