Georgia Tech Strikes Gold with Lily Alderman

Chattahoochee Gold's standout senior swimmer Lily Alderman is bound for Atlanta's Georgia Tech next fall. "I chose Georgia Tech because of the amazing academic and athletic programs. The swim team is really close and always looks like they’re having fun and supporting each other at meets. I also really like that the importance of academics is emphasized at Tech."

Lily is the 5th ranked female swimmer in Georgia for the class of 2024. Over the summer she was state champion in 200 meter backstroke at the Georgia Long Course Senior State Championship meet. Last December she was state champ in both the 400 yard IM and 500 yard freestyle at the Georgia Senior Short Course Championships.

Lily has trained & competed for Woodstock-based Chattahoochee Gold for ten years. She says,"The best part about being on Gold is having such an amazing support system of teammates and coaches. Chattahoochee Gold has helped me with everything I’ve done in swimming and all of my coaches have always been supportive of my goals. As an age group swimmer, I had a close connection with Coach Jasmine (Green)...she helped me a lot with technique in all of my strokes, and also helped me find confidence going into races. Coach Mike (Wardwell) helped introduce me to training for specific events, but also still made sure I had a variety and was swimming what I wanted to...and prepared me to swim at the national level. Coach Austin (Sumrall) has also always made sure that I know he believes in me and wants me to achieve my goals which has led to a lot of success when racing. He always has the best advice for me and has done everything he can to help me improve my swimming. Coach Austin has been one of the most impactful people in my life." Sumrall says, "We're incredibly happy for Lily as she takes her next step in her swimming journey at Georgia Tech. An incredible swimmer and person, she'll make an immediate impact for the team at Georgia Tech both in the water and out. Go Yellow Jackets!"

Of her Gold teammates, Lily reflects, "I’m so glad that every day I get to surround myself with people that want to get better and also people that want me to get better, and we have a lot of fun training together. I love watching their hard work pay off and seeing them happy with their races."

At Tech, Lily thinks she'll swim mostly backstroke, "...but I’m ready to swim anything I’m needed for, and I hope to contribute as much as I possibly can to the team and be the best teammate I can."

Chattahoochee Gold started back in 1992. It trains swimmers at its home in downtown Woodstock as well as Mountain View Aquatic Center in Marietta and Cumming Aquatic Center in Forsyth County.
