Girls Who Code: Local Student Finishes Program
The prestigious science program teaches girls about all sorts of coding, like robots and computers.

WOODSTOCK-TOWNE LAKE, GA - From River Ridge High School: A River Ridge High School sophomore has completed a prestigious computer science program!
Sathvika Narasimhan was selected to participate in Girls Who Code’s Summer Immersion Program sponsored by the national nonprofit organization and State Farm.
During the intensive seven-week immersion program at State Farm’s office in Dunwoody, select students learned various computer languages and programming and robotic techniques, and then applied this knowledge to invent projects that might solve problems and aid humanity. Girls Who Code’s mission is to close the gender gap in technology and “inspire, educate, and equip young women with the computing skills to pursue 21st-century opportunities.”

Sathvika and her project partners developed a light-up jacket using Ardruino Lily Pad technology and Java Script to help people with an emotional disorder called Alexithymea. The design uses lights of different colors to signal and express various emotions.
The program, which Sathvika described as “an amazing experience,” especially programming robots with the Andruino language, provided new computer programming skills she thinks will be useful in her future career as a medical doctor.
