Gold Swim's Jacob Ashley to Compete for Connecticut College Camels

Chattahoochee Gold swim team's Jacob Ashley is bound for Connecticut College to continue his athletic & academic ventures. His path to the school was simple, "I was looking for relatively small schools with a men’s swim team. When I went to Conn and met their coach, I was interested. Later, I went on a recruiting trip and I met some of the swimmers and it all just sort of clicked. I think they chose me largely because I mesh well with what they’re looking for in a student-athlete."

Jacob says he'll compete in distance freestyle and butterfly events for the Camels with goals that include, "Win NESCAC (conference championship) as a team; individually, qualify for NCAA championships."

How did Chattahoochee Gold help Jacob reach the level of collegiate swimmer? "The training and coaching that Gold provided has been a consistent rock to rely on in order to improve myself." In particular, Jacob says Chattahoochee Gold coach Mark Schilling, "pushed me harder at the times I needed it."

In his 5 years with the club team, Jacob says his proudest swim achievement is the ability to compete in the challenging 200 Butterfly race. He was also a standout with the swim team at Marietta's Kell High School where he broke the school record in 500 Freestyle 3 times.

Jacob says he'll likely study Classics or philosophy at Connecticut College.
