Groundbreaking For Towne Lake Pass Trail Set For March 4

The trail will run northwest from Woofstock Dog Park, under I-575, near Woodstock Middle and High schools to Towne Lake Hills South.

WOODSTOCK, GA -- The city of Woodstock will soon break ground on an addition to its Greenprints Trail network.

The groundbreaking ceremony for the Towne Lake Pass Trail will be held at 8:30 a.m. Saturday, March 4 at the Woofstock Dog Park trail head, which is at 150 Dupree Road.

The project will be done in conjunction with Cherokee County. County Commissioners recently approved a $2.86 million contract with Integrated Construction & Nobility, Inc. to build the concrete path that will run from the dog park to Towne Lake Hills South.

Its route will run northwest from the dog park, under I-575 and through the wooded area near Woodstock Middle and High schools until it reaches Towne Lake Hills South.

The project would also construct concrete sidewalks along Towne Lake Hills Drive South from the trailhead to Woodstock High School and Towne Lake Hills South Drive from the trailhead to Towne Lake Parkway.

The project will be funded using Woodstock's portion of the county's 2008 parks bond proceeds.

The city as well as the county also approved a resolution dedicating the trail "In Loving Memory of Council Member Mary Tessa Basford."

Basford is the former Ward 6 City Council member who passed away in October 2014.

“Tessa Basford was an incredible advocate of the Woodstock Parks and Recreation Department and the Greenprints Trail System," said Woodstock Parks and Recreation Director Preston Pooser. "It is a fitting tribute that the Towne Lake Pass Trail be dedicated in her memory.”

Construction is scheduled to start in the spring, and will be completed in early to mid-2018, weather permitting.

“I expect that this will be one of our most utilized trails," Woodstock Mayor Donnie Henriques added. "It will allow people from the Towne Lake area to be able to walk to and from downtown Woodstock to eat dinner and shop."
