The Legacy of Chattahoochee Gold’s Giving Trees

Each year at this time, Woodstock-based Chattahoochee Gold swim team works with area elementary schools to identify children in need; their families are struggling financially, many have only one parent or don't have a home of their own. For some of these kids, what Chattahoochee Gold families donate will amount to their only holiday.

“Giving Trees” are displayed at the three facilities where Gold trains its swimmers – the Woodstock Aquatic Center, Mountain View Aquatic Center in East Cobb and Cumming Aquatic Center in Forsyth County. Gold swimmers select tags off the tress to purchase requested items as well as for gift cards for big purchases like bikes or for family holiday meals.

Giving Tree proceeds also support a canine rescue group that relies on donations to provide a home and hospice care for older and homeless dogs.

And this year through the Giving Trees, Chattahoochee Gold will also support one of its own - Coach Macy Tarlton. Macy is on a quest to compete with the USA Bobsled National team at the winter Olympics! The USA Bobsled Federation helps its athletes with some of their training costs, but Macy needs additional financial aid as a season's worth of training can cost as much as 30,000 dollars.

Chattahoochee Gold co-owner Beth Murphy is proud of her swim families' embrace of the team's Giving Trees, "Since 1993, Gold Swimming has been sponsoring families and organizations in need at Christmas. Our Giving Tree is just one of the ways we give back to our community. Teaching our swimmers the importance of giving back and seeing the joy they spread has been a highlight for me and my staff."
