More Than 1,300 Students Participate In Summer School Options

WOODSTOCK, GA — More than 1,300 students participated in Cherokee County School District Summer School opportunities in June for academic help and credit recovery, to prepare for high school, or to take extra high school classes.

The high school credit recovery program culminated with a graduation ceremony held Friday at Etowah High School, with 50 students earning their high school diploma. A record 42 students walked across the stage at the ceremony and received their diplomas from Cherokee County School Board members Mike Chapman and Patsy Jordan.

More than 400 select elementary school students attended summer programs, which were held at five sites, to increase their academic achievement. Teasley Middle School hosted a summer program for 75 middle school students to prepare them for next school year.

All six district high schools hosted summer bridge programs for more than 150 rising freshmen to assist in the transition from middle school to high school, which concluded with a field trip to Chattahoochee Technical College’s Acworth campus.

Each high school also offered online credit recovery for students, and Cherokee High School and Etowah hosted regular classes for students to earn initial credit, including health and physical education for rising freshmen.
