More Than 1,300 Students Took Advantage Of Cherokee Summer School Programs

WOODSTOCK, GA -- More than 1,300 students took advantage of the Cherokee County School District's Summer School opportunities during June, whether for academic remediation, high school credit recovery, high school preparation, or to take additional high school classes.
The summer program ended Friday, and a graduation ceremony was held at Etowah High School for those students completing the requirements for their high school diploma. Students from CCSD Title I schools were identified by staff to attend summer programs to increase their academic achievement.
These programs were held at Canton Elementary School STEM Academy on the north end of the county and at Oak Grove Elementary School Fine Arts Academy on the south end. Teasley Middle School hosted a summer school session for rising sixth through eighth graders for remediation and previewing content in the areas of reading, language arts, mathematics and science. All six district high schools also hosted summer Bridge programs for identified rising ninth graders to assist in the transition from middle school to high school, and each site also offered online credit recovery for students.

Cherokee and Etowah high schools hosted regular summer classes for students to earn initial credit, including sections of required health and PE for rising ninth graders.
