The autopsy performed by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation Crime Lab also determined Jayquan Smallwood, 22, of Acworth, died from ”sharp force trauma to the chest,” Cherokee Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Lt. Jay Baker said Monday.

Deputies were dispatched around 12:38 a.m. Jan. 10 to the Hidden Falls of Acworth mobile home park, which is located off Bells Ferry Road south of Eagle Drive.

Smallwood rented a room at the home of Nolan and Jessica Hoad, who Baker said also lived at the house with their three children.

Early Sunday morning, Cloyse Hoad, Nolan’s brother, and mother, Emily Pomeroy, ”were also inside the mobile home when Smallwood allegedly attacked Nolan following an argument over money,” Baker said.

Witnesses told investigators that during the altercation, Smallwood ”armed himself with a knife,” Baker said.

Cloyse Hoad, who was also in possession of a knife, reportedly came to his brother’s defense and pulled Smallwood off Nolan, the sheriff’s office states.

During the altercation, Smallwood suffered three puncture wounds to the chest while Nolan Hoad was injured with a minor wound to his shoulder.

Baker said no charges have been filed at this time, and the investigation remains ongoing.
