River Ridge Nursing Students Prepare For First Clinical Rotation

After months of practicing patient care skills in the classroom, students will now use these skills in local nursing and medical facilities.

Students in River Ridge High School’s 2014-15 Nursing Assistant Program are preparing for their first clinical rotation in January.

After months of practicing patient care skills in the classroom, students will now use these skills in local nursing and medical facilities for 40 hours of clinical rotation, the Cherokee County School District said earlier this week.

Following these hours, students will take the Nursing Assistant State Certification Exam as the culmination of this Healthcare Science Career Pathway Program.

This is the third year that River Ridge has offered the program, which has quickly grown in popularity, the school district added.

“I’ve learned valuable skills that I will continue to use in my future medical career,” junior Hayden Kolodziejcyk said.

Senior Andrew Dionne said the program is not only a “rewarding experience,” but also has made him more aware of future career opportunities in the healthcare field.

Students added that they enjoy the camaraderie of sharing classes with students who have the same career interest.

“It feels like we’re all a big family working towards the same goal to get our first step into the medical field,” junior Sophie O’Hare said.
