WALESKA, GA -- Cherokee County Superintendent of Schools Dr. Brian Hightower has been named Reinhardt University’s Distinguished Alumnus of the Year.

The award, which recognizes an individual with “outstanding personal achievement and an unselfish and dedicated personal devotion to Reinhardt,” will be presented on Friday, April 15 during the University’s inauguration gala.
Dr. Kina S. Mallard will be inaugurated as the University’s 20th president.

Dr. Hightower, who graduated from Reinhardt in 1983, has been an educator for 30 years. He taught nine years at E.T. Booth Middle School before moving on as assistant principal then principal. He was appointed director of school operations in 2003 and assistant superintendent of school operations in 2011.
He later was named deputy superintendent and earlier this year, he was tapped by the school board to lead the district as its superintendent. He has supported Reinhardt for many years, including service as a charter member and co-chair of the Price School of Education’s Alumni Association from 2004 to 2015.
