Suspect, Stepson Fought Before Shooting: Police

Bryce McCallum, 19, was found dead Sunday at a home on Mirramont Place in Woodstock.

WOODSTOCK, GA -- The man charged with killing his stepson over the weekend had an altercation with the victim days before the fatal encounter.

That's according to Lt. Jay Baker with the Cherokee Sheriff's Office, who said the fight between Carl Lewis and Bryce McCallum, 19, occurred "days earlier."

The nature of the fight, Baker added, remains under investigation by sheriff's office detectives.

Once Lewis confessed to the crime, Woodstock police notified Cherokee County 911 and the Cherokee Sheriff's Office, and deputies were dispatched to the scene.

Once at the home, deputies were assisted by Cherokee County firefighters in opening a window to get inside the residence. McCallum was found with a gunshot wound to the head and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Lewis is charged with murder, aggravated assault and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony. He is currently at the Cherokee County Adult Detention Center with no bond.
