Towne Lake Pass Trail Construction Ahead Of Schedule

The city of Woodstock hopes to open the trail connecting Towne Lake to downtown by the end of 2017.

WOODSTOCK, GA -- The city of Woodstock is moving along at a pretty good pace on the construction of its much-anticipated Towne Lake Pass Trail -- so much so that the project is nearing completion.

Woodstock Parks and Recreation Director Preston Pooser said construction, which as originally anticipated to wrap up by early 2018, is ahead of schedule.

"We hope to have the trail completed by mid to late December," he told Patch. "This is, of course, subject to change, depending on weather."

No ribbon cutting date and time for the project has been scheduled, and that most likely won't be determined until early December, Pooser added.

The multi-purpose trail connection is being done in conjunction with Cherokee County, as commissioners in December 2016 approved a $2.86 million contract with Integrated Construction & Nobility, Inc. to build the concrete path that will run from Woofstock Park to Towne Lake Hills South. It will connect Towne Lake residents to the Noonday Creek Trail, which runs from Market Street in downtown Woodstock to Highway 92.

The route will run northwest from the dog park, under I-575 and through the wooded area near Woodstock Middle and High schools until it reaches Towne Lake Hills South. The project would also construct concrete sidewalks along Towne Lake Hills Drive South from the trailhead to Woodstock High School and Towne Lake Hills South Drive from the trailhead to Towne Lake Parkway.

The project will be funded using Woodstock's portion of the county's 2008 parks bond proceeds. As readers may recall, the city and the county also approved a resolution dedicating the trail to former Woodstock City Council member Tessa Basford, who passed away in 2014.
