They were also arrested in Cherokee County a year prior for "attempting to transport a large amount of meth" in the county, officials said.
ACWORTH, GA — A man and woman were sentenced recently for once again for attempted meth trafficking into Cherokee County, officials said.
District Attorney Shannon Wallace said that on Dec. 4 Jeremy Jones, 25, of Walker County, was sentenced to 20 years, with 10 to serve in confinement for trafficking methamphetamine. A Cherokee County jury convicted Jones on Nov. 20.
Co-defendant Lisa Danat Jenkins, 40, of Whitfield County, pleaded guilty on Nov. 15 to the same charges and received a sentence of 20 years, with 10 to serve in confinement.

Jones and Jenkins were arrested in the early morning hours on Dec. 18, 2018 in Acworth near Interstate 75 and Highway 92. They possessed 4.4 ounces of methamphetamine, which was located in a black bag in the front passenger floorboard of their vehicle.
“One year ago today, these defendants attempted to transport a large amount of methamphetamine through our county,” said Assistant District Attorney Kelly Chavis, who prosecuted the case on behalf of the state. “Fortunately, a non-functioning tag light drew the attention of law enforcement who pulled over the vehicle and discovered the illegal activity.”

Sentences imposed by Senior Judge Frank C. Mills III included a fine of $200,000 and no contact with the other defendant. Jenkins must also complete 200 hours of community service and is banished from Cherokee County.
“While most residents are home sleeping, Cherokee County Sheriff’s deputies are out patrolling our roads and protecting us," Wallace said. "Thanks to an alert deputy, these drug traffickers were apprehended and are now off our streets."
