Woodstock Delays Project Calling For Two 7-Story Buildings

The Woodstock Planning Commission tabled the request due to the developer submitting a revised site plan at the last minute.

WOODSTOCK, GA — The Woodstock Planning Commission has applied the brakes on a controversial project that sought to build two, seven-story buildings along Main Street near the Woodstock West By Walton apartment community. The commission tabled the request from Tony Perry at its April 5 meeting.

Perry, a long-time developer who recently opened Woodstock City Homes along Arnold Mill Road, petitioned the city to consider variances to accommodate his plans to build the buildings that would be located at 8816 and 8826 Main Street. The site is home to Sew Main Street and Whole Nine Yarns.

Senior Planner Katie Colbourn said the Planning Commission tabled the case because the applicant presented "an entirely new plan" that staff had not reviewed and the public had not seen. This new plan included three-story buildings, she said.

"I expect it will be on the next agenda after we have had a chance to review it," she added.

The original concept called for one seven-story mixed use building facing Main Street, another seven-story residential building facing Market Street and a three-story parking deck situated between both buildings. One building would have contained 60 residential condos and street-level commercial space. The other structure would have had 68 residential condos, with the street-level units having some type of live/work component.
