Woodstock Elementary Health Track Ribbon Cutting Friday

WellStar Partners with Greenprints Alliance to Bring Project to Life

Release:

The ribbon cutting for the new Health Track at Woodstock Elementary School will take place Friday, August 29, 2014 at 9:30 AM. Greenprints Alliance, in conjunction with WellStar Health System, has built a 1⁄4-mile asphalt track on the school’s campus.

“WellStar is committed to building healthier communities,” said Kim Menefee, senior vice president of public/government affairs. “We hope the new track inspires students at Woodstock Elementary School and the residents of Cherokee County to live an active, healthy life.”

Executives from WellStar and Board Members from Greenprints Alliance, along with Community Leaders, will be on hand for the Official Ribbon Cutting and a performance from the Woodstock Elementary School Chorus will round out the celebration.

School leaders from Woodstock Elementary School along with Greenprints Alliance, a local non-profit trail advocacy and development group, have worked to raise money for a track at the school over the past couple of years. The idea for the track was developed due to a lack in facilities on the campus for physical fitness testing and training.

Greenprints Alliance originally approached the school about using the front portion of the school’s property, which is not currently being used. Beyond school programs, the community can use the track outside of school hours.

“We have long had a vision to have an outdoor space dedicated to promoting fitness that can be used by all stakeholders. This track will benefit our staff, students, and the community at large. The 1⁄4-mile asphalt track is located in a beautiful, park-like area in front of the school,” stated Physical Education teacher Dr. Scott Fortes, “Principal Kim Montalbano and I are excited to start the 2014-2015 school year with a place where the entire school family, and the community that so graciously supports us, can be healthy in a natural environment. On behalf of Woodstock Elementary School, we would like to express our gratitude to both WellStar and Greenprints Alliance for partnering with the school to make dreams come true!“

Following the Official Ribbon Cutting Celebration, Greenprints Alliance will host a tour of the Town to Creek and Noonday Creek 1.5 mile Trail for all interested community members. Meet at Elm Street and Market Street at 10:15 AM, and the Tour will begin at 10:30 AM.
