Woodstock Officer Fired, Others Suspended For Suspected Drug Use
A Woodstock police officer has been fired and three more suspended for suspected illegal drug use, the department said Thursday.

WOODSTOCK, GA — A Woodstock Police Officer has been fired and three others have been put on administrative leave after an anonymous tip allege they were using illegal drugs.
Officer Michael Smart was fired after anonymous tip alleged illegal drug use by one member of the department, Assistant Chief Kevin Culpepper said in a press release. It is not believed Smart was working while using the drugs, Culpepper said.
"The Woodstock Police Department is committed to thoroughness and transparency in investigating allegations of employee misconduct and want to assure the public that appropriate action will be taken when warranted," Culpepper said in the release.

Smart was the department's 2017 Rookie of the Year. Last year, Smart was recognized in the department's significant achievement report for making 57 drug arrests.
The names of the three suspended officers have not been released yet.

This is an ongoing internal investigation so further details cannot be released at this time, Culpepper said.
