Woodstock To Schedule Ward 6 Special Election

City staff will draft a resolution calling for a special election in March to fill the seat vacated by the late Tessa Basford.

The city of Woodstock is making moves to fill its vacant Ward 6 seat.

The City Council on Monday directed staff to draft a resolution to call for a special election to be held Tuesday, March 17, 2015, to fill the seat vacated with the passing of former Council member Tessa Basford.

The resolution will be placed on the council’s Dec. 8 meeting agenda and the final reading and approval will be considered during the Dec. 15 meeting.

If approved, qualifying would be scheduled for Jan. 14-16, 2015. A run-off, if needed, would be held April 21, 2015.

The candidate elected in the special election will serve the remainder of Basford’s term, which expires Dec. 31, 2015. Basford passed away in early October after a long battle with cancer.
