Woodstock Schedules First Concert in New Amphitheater

A grand opening for the new amphitheater at the Park at City Center will be held on Saturday, Nov. 12.

WOODSTOCK, GA -- The city of Woodstock will soon become home to north Georgia's newest outdoor music venue.

The city will host the first concert in its new amphitheater on Saturday, Nov. 12, and Woodstock leaders are set to cut the ribbon during a grand opening ceremony before the show.

The amphitheater, located at the Park at City Center, will host country music artist and Woodstock resident, Mark Wills, that night with a free concert. Local band, The Thomas Fountain Band, will open the show.

City spokesperson Brittany Duncan said the start time for the concert has yet to be determined.

“Having the opening of the amphitheater the night after our traditional Veteran’s Day Ceremony gives us a great opportunity to thank the veterans of Woodstock and the surrounding area," Woodstock Mayor Donnie Henriques said. "I can’t think of anyone more appropriate to be part of this grand opening and veteran’s tribute than Woodstock’s own Mark Wills.”

The new facility features multiple grass terraces and a large main lawn to accommodate an audience of over 7,500. The band-shell includes public restrooms that will also serve the Park at City Center year-round.

“This venue in our downtown district will further launch Woodstock to the front of desirable arts and entertainment destinations," Parks and Recreation Director Preston Pooser added. "I believe the citizens of Woodstock will be proud to welcome concert-goers to our great city."

The construction of the venue forced the city to call off its 2016 Summer Concert Series, which will be replaced with a smaller music festival featuring various acts on stages throughout the downtown area.
