Woodstock Students Place First At DECA Conference

WOODSTOCK, GA -- Two Woodstock High School students recently placed first at the State DECA Career Development Conference, and now are eligible for International competition.

Senior Michael Papadimitriou and sophomore Makayla Adams, who both earned first-place honors in the Principles of Finance event at the state competition held earlier this month in Atlanta, now can compete at the International Career Development Conference.

That conference will be held in April in Nashville.

Seven students from Woodstock High School were among the more than 1,700 DECA students from around the state who took part in more than 60 events at the state conference.

In addition to Michael and Makayla, those students were: junior Kara Landsiedel, who competed in Quick Serve Restaurant Management; senior Stivens Salazar, Accounting Applications; junior Cydney Moore, Community Service Project; and juniors Ryan Brusie and Tahj Brown, Public Relations Project. Other activities included learning workshops to boost skills in teamwork and leadership.

DECA, an association of marketing students, is a co-curricular student organization that promotes the principles of marketing, management and entrepreneurship. Through classroom instruction, community service and competition, DECA encourages students to develop skills in leadership, teamwork, management and decision-making skills.
