Hawaii Girl, 9, Starves To Death: Parents Plead Not Guilty
An indictment says Kevin Lehano, Tiffany Stone and Henrietta Stone denied the girl food, water and medical treatment for about a year.
HILO, HI — A mother and father in Hawaii pleaded not guilty to murder in the starvation death of their 9-year-old daughter .
According to an indictment, Kevin Lehano, Tiffany Stone and Henrietta Stone denied the girl food, water and medical treatment for about a year before she died in June 2016. A 911 caller said the girl was unresponsive, police said. Officers and firefighters responding to the Hilo home found the severely malnourished girl unconscious on the floor. She was taken to a hospital and died.
Lehano and Stone entered their pleas Monday, Hawaii County Prosecuting Attorney Mitch Roth said. Arraignment is scheduled on Tuesday for Henrietta Stone, the girl's grandmother who had legal custody.
