Makawao, Kula and Waihou Spring forest reserves and Polipoli recreation area remain closed after Hurricane Nolo (mauinow.com) — Access to the Kula Forest Reserve and nearby Makawao and Waihou Spring reserves remains closed while crews repair damage from Hurricane Nolo, and Polipoli Spring State Recreation Area is also shut because of surrounding closures. Other Maui forestry and wildlife lands are open, but officials urge caution and recommend checking DLNR apps and websites for the latest updates before heading out.

Hawaiʻi Faces Approximately $1 Billion in Disaster Recovery and Resilience Needs (hawaii.gov) — Kula residents should know the state has committed $65 million to restore and reopen Kula Hospital after it was forced to close during the March Kona Low storms. That closure was part of roughly $1 billion in recent disaster damage and resilience needs statewide, spanning hurricanes, flooding, and an earthquake. Officials are still assessing losses while planning hundreds of millions in long-term mitigation projects.
