📰 News we're reading

1. Boise Launches Renter's Protection Education Campaign (cityofboise.org) — Boise renters will soon see a new city campaign explaining their rights, from catching up on late rent to requesting repairs and navigating Idaho's eviction process. With many Boise neighborhoods heavily renter-occupied and residents often cost-burdened, the city is rolling out tools, templates, and connections to groups like Idaho Legal Aid and Jesse Tree to support housing stability.

2. 'Significant delusional beliefs': Alleged Boise Greenbelt killer not competent for trial (eastidahonews.com) — A judge has ruled the man accused in the deadly Boise River Greenbelt stabbing incompetent to stand trial, sending him to Idaho's maximum-security prison for psychiatric treatment. The decision follows expert testimony about his severe mental illness, and his status will be reviewed in an October hearing while the first-degree murder case remains pending.

3. Boise Police Department launches program to help disabled individuals during traffic stops (kivitv.com) — Boise residents with disabilities now have access to the new Blue Envelope Program, designed to make traffic stops and emergencies safer and less stressful. By keeping key documents and communication needs in a blue envelope, participants can quickly share information with officers, and envelopes are available starting Sept. 10 at City Hall, City Hall West, and Ada County driver's license offices.

4. Five Boise areas may receive federal tax benefits to encourage development (kivitv.com) — Five specific areas of Boise, including Downtown, Shoreline, and West Boise, may soon be designated federal Opportunity Zones, bringing powerful tax incentives for new housing, businesses, and jobs. City leaders say the ten-year designation, if approved for 2027, could shape how and where Boise grows, emphasizing more homes and employment near parks, schools, and transit for residents.

5. RUNNER's Boise world premiere brings Angel co-founders back to their Idaho roots (kivitv.com) — Downtown Boise just hosted the world premiere of the action film RUNNER at the historic Egyptian Theatre, bringing Angel Studios co-founders back to their Idaho roots. The filmmakers highlighted why they chose Boise, how local Angel Guild members influenced the movie's final cut, and encouraged aspiring Idaho creators to start telling their own stories with whatever tools they have.
