📰 News we're reading

1. Expansion of Nampa campus reflects wider regional growth for Saint Alphonsus (idahobusinessreview.com) — Saint Alphonsus is launching a $380 million expansion of its Nampa hospital, adding a seven-story tower, 157 beds, and 260,000 square feet by fall 2028. Leaders say the project will ease chronic overcrowding, keep more Canyon County patients closer to home, and require hiring about 140 new medical providers across Nampa and Meridian.

2. Want to renew your vehicle registration at a Treasure Valley grocery store? Soon you can. (ktvb.com) — Nampa drivers will soon be able to renew their vehicle registrations at an Albertsons in town, as part of Idaho DMV's new "Skip the Trip" self-serve kiosk program. The first kiosks launch in Boise and Meridian, with Nampa's machine expected within about a month. The kiosks handle standard renewals only and include a vendor and card fee, but promise much shorter waits than the DMV.

3. 3 are hospitalized after crash in Nampa. Police awaiting crash reconstruction (idahostatesman.com) — Three people, including a pregnant woman, were hospitalized after a four-vehicle crash Monday morning at the busy intersection of Middleton Road and Lake Lowell Avenue in Nampa. Police say witnesses reported one vehicle may have run a stop sign, and crash reconstruction will determine any charges. Investigators are asking anyone who saw the collision to contact Nampa Police Sgt. Doug Harward.

4. A fetching honor: Nampa woman selected as judge for Westminster (ktvb.com) — A longtime Nampa dog enthusiast, Debra Long-Gschwender, has been selected to judge select Herding breeds at the prestigious Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show in January 2027. She's been involved with purebred dogs since her teens and has judged multiple groups since 2000. Her role puts Nampa on the map at one of the world's most-watched dog events, which will stream on Netflix.

5. Snake River Sugarbeets Bounce Back After Spring Replanting, But Tonnage Is Expected To Dip From Last Year's Record Harvest (pnwag.net) — Sugarbeet growers across Idaho, Oregon, and Washington have bounced back after replanting 90,000 acres, though total tonnage is expected to fall from last year's record. For farmers around Nampa, early harvest is projected to begin September 21, following a September 8 start in eastern Idaho. Water limits, weeds, and disease pressures remain concerns as growers push to finish the season.
