Witnesses reported hearing gunshots and seeing a shirtless man toss a gun outside in the snow after shooting himself in the leg, police said. A 36-year-old woman and her 4-year-old son were killed, and an 8-year-old child with special needs was physically unharmed.

Police said the early Sunday incident mirrored one earlier this month when another homeowner had four rounds shot at them. According to officials, a homeowner saw two men attempting to break into a car parked at the home and confronted them before being attacked and shot.
