A man died after bystanders pulled him from the water, where witnesses said he was jumping from shoreline rocks into Lake Michigan at Illinois Beach State Park on Sunday.
"The Bookie's family is together in grief with Rich's wife and children. We are all in a state of shock," the shop said.
The incident—captured on video by several in the stands during the two teams' varsity game Friday—prompted the IHSA to release a statement saying it "strongly condemns the racist actions that were perpetrated by a small number" of students, adding, "every high school student-athlete in Illinois deserves to compete in a safe and respectful environment."
