Big Lots Bankruptcy: Find Out What IL Stores Are Slated To Close
The Ohio-based discount retail chain declared for Chapter 11 bankruptcy on Monday.

ILLINOIS — Just days after announcing it has declared Chapter 11 bankruptcy, retailer Big Lots will be closing more stores across the country, including some in Illinois. Last month, the Ohio-based discount retail chain closed 300 locations nationwide.
As Patch previously reported, Big Lots declared for bankruptcy Monday. The company said it plans "to continue optimizing our store footprint" during its reorganization process.
Big Lots said its stores and online shopping site will continue to operate as usual. The retailer expects to be able to continue to honor gift cards and store credit cards.

Founded in 1967, the company operated in its infancy as Consolidated International and operated closeout and discount stores under various names. In 2001, the various store names and company were converted to the single national Big Lots brand.
Currently, Big Lots operates 29 stores in Illinois. Those now slated to close, according to the company's website, are:
- 8148 S Cicero Ave., Burbank
- 1699 River Oaks Drive, Calumet City
- 1139 W. Broadway, Centralia
- 204 S. Randall Road, Elgin

In July, Big Lots announced it was also closing locations in Crest Hill, Lockport, and Niles, bringing the total number of impacted stores to nine.
"Though most of our stores are profitable, and we are taking every step possible to improve the profitability of all our stores, we will need to close certain locations to ensure that our business operates efficiently and we can continue serving our customers," the company stated in a Monday release.
