Coroner IDs Man Killed in Rural McHenry County Crash

The crash occurred at Route 20 and Harmony Road, which is west of Huntley, on Monday.

A 29-year-old Elgin man who was killed Monday in a two-vehicle crash at an intersection in rural McHenry County has been identified as Malone D. Deloncker.

The crash happened just after 7 p.m. on Monday when a 2002 Dodge Durango was traveling east on Harmony Road and failed to yield the right of way from a stop sign at the intersection of Route 20 and Harmony, according to a news release from the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office. The SUV was struck by a 2009 International Pro Star semi, which was pulling an empty 53-foot trailer, and was headed north on Route 20.

The driver of the semi, a 59-year old Hanover Park man, is cooperating with the investigation, police said. He was transported to Centegra Medical Center in Huntley for treatment and is listed in good condition.

In that collision, DiMauro was driving his 1999 Ford Expedition north on U.S. Route 20 at Harmony Road at 6:43 p.m. on Nov. 23 when a 2007 Hino 268 box truck, which was headed east on Harmony Road, did not stop for a stop sign and collided with the SUV, according to authorities.

The intersection, authorities told the Daily Herald, is known by emergency personnel as being dangerous.

Over the years, there’s been a lot of fatalities,” Huntley Battalion Chief Tim Flannigan told the Daily Herald. “It’s a T intersection, high speed and the view is blocked for people coming off of the I-90 interchange.”

Local residents also sounded off on the Huntley Patch Facebook page regarding the intersection following the Nov. 23 crash. One commenter said there is a history of bad accidents at the intersection that dates back 60 years.
