Authorities ID Man Killed in Crash Near Huntley

The crash on Route 20 in unincorporated Huntley killed John DiMauro of Woodtock.

A 54-year-old Woodstock man who was killed in a crash on Route 20 in unincorporated Huntley on Wednesday evening has been identified as John DiMauro, authorities said Friday.

The Woodstock man was driving his 1999 Ford Expedition north on U.S. Route 20 at Harmony Road at 6:43 p.m. when a 2007 Hino 268 box truck, which was headed east on Harmony Road, did not stop for a stop sign and collided with the SUV. DiMauro was taken to Advocate Sherman Hospital in Elgin where he was pronounced dead, Kane County Coroner Rob Russell told the Daily Herald.

The driver of the Hino, a 24-year-old Chicago man who has not yet been identified, was also taken to Advocate Sherman Hospital for precautionary reasons, according to a news release from the McHenry County Sheriff's Office. He was later treated and released.

There were no passengers in either vehicle. Alcohol or drugs are not suspected as a cause of the crash, which is still under investigation.

U.S. Route 20 and Harmony Road remained closed for approximately 5 hours during the
investigation.

Members of the McHenry County Division of Transportation, McHenry County Conservation District, Huntley Police Department, and Hampshire Police Department assisted with traffic control. The investigation is ongoing by the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office Major Crash Investigations Unit and the Kane County Coroner’s Office.
