Coroner IDs Man Killed in Lake in the Hills House Fire

The fire, which started in the master bedroom of the two-story home, is being investigated by the Office of the State Fire Marshal.

A 61-year-old Lake in the Hills man who firefighters rescued from a house fire in Lake in the Hills has died, authorities said.

The man, who has been identified as Arthur W. Knutson, was pulled from a second floor bedroom at 9:21 p.m. Sunday -- 11 minutes after the fire was reported at the home at 951 Creek View Lane in Lake in the Hills, according to authorities. He was taken to Centegra Hospital in Huntley where he was pronounced dead at 9:40 p.m., McHenry County Coroner Anne Majewski said in a news release.

Preliminary findings from an autopsy showed Knutson sustained burns to his body and also inhaled soot, Majewski said. Additional testing, including carbon monoxide testing, is pending at this time.

No firefighters were injured in the blaze.

The fire remains under investigation by the Office of the Illinois State Fire Marshal and the Algonquin-Lake in the Hills Fire Protection District.

The Algonquin-Lake in the Hills Fire Protection District was assisted by the Lake in the Hills Police Department, Huntley Fire Protection District, Crystal Lake Fire Department, Barrington-Countryside Fire Department and Fox River Grove Fire Protection District.

A damage estimate is not yet available.
