Algonquin Man Gets Prison For Writing Bad Check, Fraud
David Regal took $95,000 from a homeowner for a home repair project he never completed.

KANE COUNTY, IL — A 34-year-old Algonquin man has been sentenced to four years in prison for writing a bad check to a car dealership and for never completing a $95,000 home repair project after being paid by the homeowner, prosecutors said. David A. Regal pleaded guilty in September to theft, a Class 2 felony, and deceptive practice, a Class 4 felony.
Between June 2012 and February 2015, Regal told a Geneva homeowner he'd complete home improvement projects. The homeowner paid Regal $95,318 but he never completed the projects, according to a news release from the Kane County State's Attorney's Office.
Prosecutors also said Regal, of the 2600 block of Williamsburg Drive in Algonquin, wrote a bad check for $18,000 to a St. Charles car dealership for a 2014 Dodge pick-up.

“David Regal is a con man who swindled a woman out of nearly $100,000. He belongs in prison," Kane County State's Attorney Joe McMahon said. "The only way to protect the public from people like Mr. Regal is to remove them from society. I am happy to oblige.”
