Algonquin Mom Who Shot TV While 3 Kids Watched Primus Video Enters Guilty Plea

An Algonquin mother who used a rifle to turn off the family’s 50-inch flatscreen after becoming angry with her children’s TV viewing habit has pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor charge of endangering the life of a child, the Northwest Herald reports. 

Jennifer S. Ullery, of the 300 block of Talaga Drive, admitted in court Tuesday to firing several shots into the television her children were watching in January 2015, according to the article. A sentencing hearing has been set for Aug. 12. 

Ullery said she took aim at the TV because she didn’t like the program on at the time — a Primus music video — and didn’t like how much TV her 6, 11 and 15 year old children were watching, the Northwest Herald reported in a 2015 article.

Ullery was originally charged with one felony count of discharge of a firearm, three misdemeanor counts of endangering the life of a child and one misdemeanor count of possessing a firearm without a valid FOID card.

The TV shooting took place on Jan. 20, according to police, as the three kids were sitting on the couch. The shooting was reported to police by the Department of Children and Family Services about three weeks later When police visited, Ullery invited them inside, reports the Daily Herald.

“Mom didn’t say anything, she just walked into the room and started shooting the TV,” Algonquin Deputy Police Chief Andrew Doles said.
