Algonquin Police Chief Russell Laine to Retire

Laine has been the chief of police for the Algonquin Police Department since 1985.

Chief of Police Russell Laine has announced his intention to retire in December 2014. Laine has been the Chief of Police for the Algonquin Police Department since 1985.

He also served as the Chief of Police in Bartlett, Illinois, and Edgerton, Wisconsin. He has over 25 years experience as a Chief of Police and has been in law enforcement since 1976.

During his tenure as Chief of Police, Laine served as President of the McHenry County Chiefs of Police Association. He is a founding member of the Algonquin-LITH Rotary Club, a former Treasurer and Board Member of the Club.

He serves on the McHenry County Communities Against Gangs, past member of the McHenry County Child Advocacy Board and a member of the Sherman Health Care Advisory Board. In November of 2007, Chief Laine received the Law Enforcement Recognition Award from the Illinois Council Against Handgun Violence.

Furthermore, Laine has served as President of both the Illinois Association of Chiefs of Police and the International Association of Chiefs of Police.

Additionally, Chief Laine was instrumental in introducing the Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics in Algonquin and McHenry County, Illinois. Beginning in 2010, it is Chief Laine’s privilege to serve on the Board of Directors for Illinois Special Olympics.

Chief Laine has demonstrated his strong leadership and unrelenting commitment to enhancing public safety by offering specialized law enforcement training on both national and international levels.

Nationally, he has lectured on civil liability, police ethics, police administration and criminal law & procedure. Internationally, he has lectured on police ethics, leadership and policing to government and law enforcement officials in Argentina, Peru, and Lithuania through the Pointman Leadership Institute.
