Algonquin Police: Lock Your Cars, Keep Thieves Out

All of the car thefts involved cars with the keys left inside.

ALGONQUIN, IL — The Algonquin Police Department is joining surrounding communities in warning residents of a string of car burglaries that have happened lately. Most of the incidents occurred overnight in residential areas and police have one message: lock your cars.

Most of the vehicles targeted were left unlocked, Algonquin police said on their Facebook page, and the cars that were stolen had their keys left inside. St. Charles experienced lots of burglaries Sunday night in which all of the target cars were unlocked.

Algonquin police are reminding residents to take valuables from their cars if possible, but to at least keep them out of sight. "We strongly believed [sic] that these simple preventative measures will help to deter future incidents," the Facebook post said.
