Barbs Advance in Class 4A Huntley Regional

DeKalb and Rockford Jefferson squared off in the first game of the Class 4A boys basketball regional held at Huntley. DeKalb came out on top, 63-54.

The IHSA Class 4A boys basketball state playoffs began on Tuesday with a local game between the DeKalb Barbs and the Rockford-Jefferson JHawks at the Huntley Regional.

The JHawks capitalized on turnovers and missed shots by the Barbs to take an early 10-3 lead.  The teams traded 3-pointers late in the first quarter as Jefferson led 14-9.

DeKalb drew within 3 early in the second quarter but after a Jefferson timeout the JHawks pushed their lead out to 27-19.  DeKalb scored a very important 3-pointer at the halftime buzzer to get the momentum back in their favor and only trail by 3 at halftime, 27-24.

DeKalb was up 5 points late in the third quarter before Jefferson's LT Davis scored 5 straight points to tie the score at 37 to end the period.

The final period was back and forth until DeKalb went up 55-50 with 1:17 left to play.  The JHawks Equavion Monroe hit a shot to make it 55-52 with 1:01 to go but the Barbs handled the pressure and made their free throws in the last minute as they went on to win 63-54.

The Barbs were led by senior guard Brian Sisler with 19 points and senior guard Kyle Berg with 18 points.  Junior center Andre Harris was also in double figures with 14.

DeKalb will face Huntley at 6:00pm tonight in a semifinal game.  Dundee-Crown will face Larkin at 7:30pm in the other semifinal.
