Conferences, Librarians and Authors, Oh My!
Illinois Library Association Conference attracts local authors.
It was a special week for Algonquin librarians. Our Director, Lynn Elam, is this year's Illinois Library Association's President and host of the conference--Bold Brilliant Brave which most of us had the pleasure of attending for a day or two.
The Algonquin Area Public Library sponsored Elizabeth Berg (Once Upon a Time, There Was You) and Goldie Goldbloom (Paperbark Shoe) for this year's ILA Author's Dinner held at the Donald Stephens Convention Center. For this popular event, twenty-nine Illinois authors were sponsored by public and university libraries from all over the state to attend cocktails, book signing and dinner. Librarians and authors then filled the ballroom to hear the masterful storytelling of the evening's speaker, Pulitzer Prize winning author Michael Cunningham (The Hours and his most recent book, By Nightfall). His voice and words were mezmerizing as he told us of his first attempt at writing as a 7 year old boy, his inspirations, love of words, his daily writing habits and the importance of editors to a writers work. You could have heard a pin drop! If you ever get the chance to see an author talk about their work, don't pass it up.
The library has these author's and more in almost every format, so stop by and let us help you find something amazing to read!
