Dundee Township Voters Oppose Longmeadow Parkway Project
The advisory referendum is meant to send a message to politicians, those opposed to the project say.

According to unofficial results, 68 percent of voters in Dundee Township supoprted an advisory referendum regarding the road project with 8,641 voting "yes" to the following question found on their ballot Tuesday:
Shall officials in municipalities in Dundee Township including Carpentersville, West Dundee, East Dundee, Sleepy Hollow, Algonquin, and Barrington Hills oppose the $100,000,000 Longmeadow Toll Way that bisects the Brunner public forest preserve, due to air, noise, and water pollution and negative impacts to property values?
According to unofficial results, 3,337 voters -- or 26 percent of those casting their ballot -- rejected the referendum.

Meanwhile, the project appears to be moving forward with the first phase, which should get underway this spring, running from intersection of Huntley and Boyer roads to just west of Randall Road, according to the Northwest Herald.
The $115 million construction project will pay for a four-lane highway and toll bridge over the Fox River. The 5.6-mile roadway will connect with Huntley Road on its western end and with Route 62 on its eastern end. Federal funds will cover $14.5 million of the project’s cost while $39.4 million will come from state funds.
Officials in Algonquin, Carpentersville and Kane County praised progress made on the long-awaited Longmeadow Parkway during a groundbreaking ceremony last month, according to the Northwest Herald.
Regardless, organizers with the Stop Longmeadow Tollbridge/Bolz Rd Bridge said Tuesday night's victory sends a strong message.
