Family Of Bicyclist Killed In Hit and Run Ask For Public's Help

A 28-year-old Schiller Park man was hit and killed by a driver in Barrington Hills on the night of May 11.

BARRINGTON HILLS, IL – A search is underway for the hit-and-run driver who fatally struck a bicyclist earlier this month in Barrington Hills. And the family of Rafal Ryndak, the 28-year-old Schiller Park man killed in the incident, sharing information on the vehicle involved in the hit and run with the hopes someone will be able to identify a s suspect. Authorities said last week they believe the vehicle responsible for the crash, which occurred at about 10 p.m. on May 11, is a black 2007 or later Toyota Tundra pickup or a 2010 Toyota Sequoia SUV, ABC 7 reports.

Marcin Ryndak, Rafal's older brother, said this isn't the first time Rafal was involved in a serious collision. In 2013, Rafal barely survived a motorcycle collision in Chicago that wasn't his fault, the Daily Herald reports. While he was still recovering from that crash, he chose to become an avid bicyclist instead of getting on a motorcycle again.

"It's so unfortunate, because my family went through this once before," Ryndak told the Daily Herald. "I don't know if it's lack of luck or some weird fate, but the family is really suffering."

Rafal was riding his bicycle on Route 59 south of Route 68 at about 10 p.m. on May 11 when he was hit by the vehicle. He was thrown several feet from the bicycle and not responsive when authorities arrived, according to a news release from the Barrington Hills Police Department.

The vehicle left the scene before authorities arrived. Authorities have not released a description of the driver, the Daily Herald reported late last week.

Meanwhile, a GoFundMe page set up to help Rafal's family cover funeral expenses has raised over $17,000. That is well over the goal amount of $15,000 set for the GoFundMe fundraiser.
