Lake in the Hills Police Crack Down on Distracted Driving With Increased Patrols
Motorists face increased patrols targeting texting, social media use, and other distractions, police said.
LAKE IN THE HILLS, IL — The Lake in the Hills Police Department is joining law enforcement agencies across Illinois to raise awareness about the dangers of distracted driving during April’s Distracted Driving Awareness Month.
Motorists should expect increased patrols throughout the month targeting texting, social media use, video viewing and other distractions behind the wheel, according to a news release from the Lake in the Hills Police Department.
Lake in the Hills Police Department Sgt. Christopher Miller, who oversees the local enforcement program for Lake in the Hills, emphasized that even a quick glance at a phone can have serious consequences.

Drivers are urged to pull over if they need to send a message or return a call, or to use hands-free technology that allows them to keep their eyes on the road. In Illinois, manually using an electronic communication device while driving is illegal and dangerous, police said.
The statewide campaign is led by the Illinois State Police and the Illinois Department of Transportation and is funded by a federal highway safety grant administered by IDOT.
