Lane Closures Begin This Week on Route 31 in Algonquin

Traffic could be slow-going as work gets underway on bridge that carries Main Street over the Edgewood Ravine.

Submission by the Illinois Department of Transportation

The Illinois Department of Transportation announced that lane closures will take place on Main Street (Illinois 31) over the Edgewood Ravine, south of Illinois 62, in Algonquin, beginning, weather permitting, Monday, June 13. The closures are necessary to make repairs and safety improvements to the bridge.

In order to complete the work, the bridge that carries Main Street over the Edgewood Ravine will be reduced to one lane in each direction. Lane width reductions and temporary traffic signals also will be in place for the duration of the project. Northbound left turns from Main Street at Edgewood Drive will be prohibited. A posted detour will direct traffic west on Beach Drive and north on Cardinal Drive to access Edgewood Drive.
