A Lake in the Hills couple was killed Sunday night in a hit-and-run crash while they were vacationing in Florida, the Northwest Herald reports.
Viola G. Flores, 51, and John R. Berg, 62, were hit by the driver of a 2002 Mercedes that was stolen from a home in Hillsborough County, Florida, police said. The accident took place in Clearwater, Flor., where the Lake in the Hills couple had been staying since Thursday as part of a long-planned vacation, according to the newspaper.
Police in Clearwater obtained a search warrant early today to seize and search the vehicle they believe was involved in the crash, according to a Facebook post on the Clearwater Police Department Facebook page. Police have been working since Sunday to locate the vehicle and continue to search for the driver in the crash.

Berg’s only son, Matt Berg, a captain with the Algonquin-Lake in the Hills Fire Protection District, told the Northwest Herald he is hopeful police will find the driver. John Berg, a retired mechanic and Algonquin native, has been vacationing in Clearwater Beach for years.
“He was in the place that he loved the most when the accident happened,” Matt Berg told the newspaper. “So I think we can find peace in that.”
