LITH Home Uninhabitable Following Fire
The blaze broke out Monday afternoon at a home on Heron Drive in Lake in the Hills.

LAKE IN THE HILLS, IL – A Lake in the Hills family is without a home after a blaze damaged their residence in the 4600 block of Heron Drive Monday afternoon. No one was home at the time of the blaze, which started at about 1:50 p.m., and a police officer driving by the residence called fire officials to report the fire, the Northwest Herald reports.
Fire crews battled the blaze for about 15 minutes in a snowstorm before it was put out. It appears the fire started in the chimney and then spread to the roof, fire officials told the Northwest Herald.
The home has been deemed uninhabitable, and a damage estimate was not immediately available.

Authorities urged drivers to avoid the area while firefighters battled the blaze. The fire also prevented District 158 buses from entering the Heron Bay area and "affected buses" were stationed at the school. The road was cleared by 3:30 p.m. and buses were able to resume their normal routes.
