Man Accused Of Sexually Abusing Child

The Lake in the Hills Police Department filed a criminal complaint against the McHenry man last month.

MCHENRY COUNTY, IL – A 58-year-old McHenry man faces aggravated criminal sex abuse charges for inappropriately touching a child. James J. Barnard, of the 1800 block of Kerry Lane, appeared in court on Wednesday where a date was set for his preliminary hearing, according to online court records. He is charged with three counts of aggravated criminal abuse of a victim under 13 years old and three counts of domestic battery/physical contact.

Barnard is accused of sexually assaulting the child on Nov. 1 and 28, the Northwest Herald reports. The Lake in the Hills Police Department investigated the case.

Barnard's attorney told the Northwest Herald his client suffers from a traumatic brain injury but could not provide any more details. Barnard is free on bail.
