Police Reveal More Details of 5-Vehicle Fatal Crash on Algonquin Bypass

The Saturday evening crash killed a Crystal Lake motorcyclist and injured three others.

ALGONQUIN, IL — Authorities are continuing to investigate a multiple-vehicle crash that claimed the life of one motorcyclist and seriously injured another Saturday evening on the Route 31 Western Bypass in Algonquin.

Police revealed a few more details Monday afternoon regarding the crash, which happened at about 5:39 p.m. on the Route 31 bypass just north of Route 62. Alex J. Misurelli, 35, of Crystal Lake, one of three motorcyclists involved in the crash, was killed in the collision.

An investigation has revealed three motorcycles, including a Harley Davidson driven by Misurelli, were headed north on Route 31 when they struck a raised median and traveled into the southbound lanes of the bypass, according to a news release from the Algonquin Police Department.

Misurelli’s motorcycle was hit by a Honda Accord, and Misurelli was pronounced dead at the scene a short time later.

The driver of the Honda, a 25-year-old Palatine man, was taken to a local hospital. His condition and the extent of his injuries were not immediately available, according to police. Misurelli’s Harley Davidson also struck a southbound Nissan Armada driven by a 16-year-old Crystal Lake boy who was not injured in the crash.

A 40-year-old Lake in the Hills man was on a second motorcycle involved in the crash. He was ejected from the motorcycle after he hit the raised median and was first taken to a local hospital and then flown to Lutheran General in Park Ridge. His condition and the extent of his injuries were not immediately available.

A third motorcyclist, a 34-year-old Woodstock man, was ejected from his Yamaha motorcycle after striking the raised median. He was transported to a local hospital, and his condition and the extent of his injuries are not available at this time.

The crash remains under investigation by the Algonquin Police Department which is being assisted by the Kane County Accident Reconstruction Team.

No citations have been issued as of Monday afternoon, police said.
