Motorcyclist Airlifted to Hospital, Woodstock Man Charged With DUI Following Crash

The three-vehicle crash happened on Route 47 near Hercules Road in unincorporated Woodstock Sunday afternoon.

WOODSTOCK, IL - A 72-year-old Woodstock has been charged with aggravated DUI following a three-vehicle crash over the weekend on Route 47 in Woodstock.

A preliminary investigation shows the crash occurred when a 2006 Chevrolet Suburban, driven by Robert Harney of Woodstock, was traveling south on Route 47, north of Hercules Road in unincorporated Woodstock, at 12:26 p.m. Harney failed to reduce his speed and hit the back of a 2016 Harley Davidson motorcycle, which was driven by the Hoffman Estates man, according to a McHenry County Sheriff’s Office press release.

The impact pushed the motorcycle into the rear of a 2013 Chevrolet Tahoe, which was stopped in traffic.

Harney was treated by Woodstock Fire Protection District and transported to Centegra-Woodstock Hospital with minor injuries. Alcohol is suspected of playing a factor in the crash and Harney has since been charged with aggravated DUI, according to police.

The driver and sole rider of the Harley Davidson was flown by Flight for Life to Condell Hospital in Libertyvile where he remains in stable condition with non-life threatening conditions.

The driver of the Tahoe, a 64-year-old Yorkville man, and the passenger, a 64-year-old Yorkville woman, were treated at the scene and released.

No airbags were deployed in the Suburban or the Tahoe and all occupants of the two vehicles were wearing their seat belts. The rider of the motorcycle was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

An investigation is ongoing by the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Crash Investigations Unit.

Members of the Woodstock Fire Protection District and the Woodstock Police Department also assisted at the scene.
