Police ID Man Shot, Killed by Employee During Robbery at Computer Store
Kenyon R. Slater, 37, of Chicago, was shot after he chased down the thieves with a gun following a robbery in Carpentersville.

CARPENTERSVILLE, IL - A robber who was shot and killed by an employee at a computer store in Carpentersville Wednesday night has been identified.
Kenyon R. Slater, 37, of Chicago, was among three thieves involved in the robbery at Oscarin's Computer Store in the 1600 block of Ravine Lane at about 7:30 p.m., according to media reports and the coroner’s office. A preliminary cause of death for Slater was “multiple gunshot wounds,” according to the Kane County Coroner’s Office. He was killed after an employee opened fire on him and his accomplices as they tried to get away following the robbery.
Oscar Torres, the owner of the computer store, told ABC 7 Chicago he was inside the store with a store manager when two armed men entered the store and started demanding cash. They used zip ties to restrain Torres and the store manager and searched the store for money. When they managed to free themselves, one of the robbers hit the store manager in the head with a pistol.

The robber found $15,000 and were headed out the door when the store manager followed them out with his own gun in hand, according to WGN-TV.
"My manager said ‘hey stop,’ and they turned around, and when they turned around and tried to take the gun my manager opened fire really quick," the store’s owner told WGN-TV.
The gunshots hit Slater. He was taken to Advocate Sherman Hospital in Elgin where he was later pronounced dead, according to the coroner’s office.

Neither employees at the computer store were seriously injured, according to the Elgin Courier-News. And police are continuing to search for two other suspects involved in the robbery.
