Coroner IDs Huntley Man Killed in Crash in Rural McHenry County

The crash that occurred early Monday morning in unicorporated Hebron Township remains under investigation.

MCHENRY COUNTY, IL - A 65-year-old Huntley man killed Monday morning when his vehicle went off the roadway and overturned in unincorporated Hebron Township has been identified as Frank S. Gianfortune, according to the McHenry County Coroner's Office.

At around 1:51 a.m. Monday, a 2013 Jeep Wrangler was traveling south on Greenwood Road, north of Thayer Road, when it left the west side of the roadway where it struck a culvert and flipped over, according to a news release.

Gianfortune, the driver and sole occupant, was treated at the scene by McHenry County Sheriff’s Office personnel and the Woodstock Fire Protection District. He was pronounced dead at the scene at 2:28 a.m.

The driver was not wearing his seatbelt and was ejected from the vehicle. Both front airbags deployed during the crash.

An autopsy on Monday revealed Gianfortune died of blunt force trauma to head, chest and abdomen.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation. Greenwood Road remained closed for three hours Monday morning for the investigation.
