Coroner IDs Crystal Lake Man Killed in 3-Vehicle Crash
The crash occurred Wednesday morning on Route 176 in unincorporated Woodstock.

MCHENRY COUNTY, IL - A 55-year-old Crystal Lake man whowas killed when the semi tractor-trailer he was driving overturned in a 3-vehicle head-on collision on Route 176 in unincorporated Woodstock Wednesday morning has been identified as Barry G. Serio, McHenry County Coroner Anne Majewski said Thursday.
Serio was pronounced dead at the scene following the collision on Route 176 at Franklinville Road, which caused his 1999 Peterbilt semi-tractor trailer to overturn and strike several trees before landing on the side of the roadway, according to a McHenry County Sheriff’s Office press release. An autopsy performed Thursday revealed Serio died from blunt force injuries to the head, Majewski said.
The crash occurred at about 6:52 a.m. when a 2008 Pontiac Vibe was traveling east on Route 176 and rear-ended a 2013 Dodge Dart, which had been waiting to turn north onto Franklinville Road. The collision caused the Dodge to be pushed into the westbound lane of Route 176 where the vehicle was struck by the westbound semi.

The driver and sole occupant of the Dodge Dart, a 29-year-old Marengo woman, was transported to Centegra Hospital in Woodstock for precautionary reasons and has been released. The driver and sole occupant of the Pontiac, a 28-year-old Woodstock man, was transported to Centegra Hospital Huntley for precautionary reasons and has been released.
Drivers on Route 176 at Franklinville were detoured for more than eight hours for the investigation.

The 1999 Peterbilt truck-tractor was pulling a dump semi-trailer and the trailer’s load was spilled onto Route 176 following the crash.
Members of Marengo Fire Rescue, Union Fire, Woodstock Fire Protection District, McHenry County Conservation Police, Illinois State Police – Commercial Motor Vehicle Section, Union Police, Illinois Department of Transportation and McHenry County Department of Transportation responded and assisted at the scene.
An investigation is ongoing by the McHenry County Sheriff's Office Major Crash Investigations Unit and the McHenry County Coroner's Office.
