2 Rescued After Ice Boat Overturns in Crystal Lake

​Emergency personnel were called to Crystal Lake Friday afternoon.

Two people were pulled from the icy water of Crystal Lake Friday afternoon after their ice boat fell into the water and overturned, authorities said.

Crystal Lake Fire and Rescue was called to the scene of the incident at 12:53 p.m. Rescue personnel put on ice suits and were able to help the victims out of the water, according to a news release.

Both people were evaluated and refused treatment, according to authorities. One rescuer was treated and released after being exposed to the cold water.

Authorities are reminding residents that despite the cold, area waterways still may have some thin ice and open water. The public is cautioned to stay off the ice or proceed with caution at their own risk, according to the news release.
